ohhh the joys of "chapel" days where we had to wear our ties, blazers, and "nice" shoes. my "nice" shoes were dr. martens. and let me tell you, you were not suuuuuper cool unless you wore dr. martens. why? i don't know. the shoes were an ugly, hot mess and seriously weighed about 3.4 pounds a piece. no joke. i was in 8th grade here (age 14), little brother was 7, and little sister was probably 6 months or so. i had braces, a slicked back bun, a pleated khaki skirt, an oxford blue shirt, tube socks, a cool tribal-looking necklace, and a bow tie which was clearly not tied into a bow. i was the essence of fashionable. if only i were still so cool.
this photo was taken my senior year of high school. my little brother was 10 here, and the little blondie in the front was 3. you can clearly pick out who's italian in this family and who's swiss. we're so multi-cultural. because i went to an all-girls school, i cheered for one of our brother all-boys schools, and my family reluctantly faithfully came to nearly all of the sporting events at which i cheered. a group of my guy friends always painted there bare-chested bodies; they did this even in 30 degree weather. they got my poor, unsuspecting little brother on the let's-paint-ourselves-with-old-paint-that-won't-come-off-with-anything-but-a-brillo-pad bandwagon.
p.s. it's supposed to SNOW today. SNOW. in HOUSTON. snow. cuh-razy.

Aw I Love looking back at old pictures of me..
My nice shoes were doc martens too and I eventually graduated from piggytail and braids to a bun.
You have inspired me to do a throw back edition on my own blog. I actually posted pics yesterday of my trip to Paris this summer. I'll have to dig through my album to go back **much** later in time... :)
Ah! I had Doc Martens too! You weren't cool unless you did. What was WITH that trend? And I hope it does snow! So that my office freaks out and closes for the day. Snow day, snow day, snow day! Fingers crossed!
I remember the Doc Marten craze. If only we could be that cool again.
By the way, my 4 year old little diva just walked up behind me & looked at your pictures. She said you were cool b/c you were a cheerleader.
I love 'take me back!' And you look so stinkin' adorable in your cheerleading uniform!
oh yeah- we rocked the doc martins as well- and your uniforms look much like the ones my school had- but only the jr high had to wear them. i just had a super strict dress code being a cool high schooler. did you guys roll your skirts up to make them shorter too?
you are tres cute- and your and your sibs look so much alike (i mean besides the blond/brunette thing- but in the eyes). cute familia :)
sorry for the snow. i feel your pain.
you have a present awaiting you at Life is Reediculous!
Doc's were SO "the thing!" ha ha - and I also wore uniforms!! I didn't like it a lot of the time, but it sure did make it easy as far as knowing what I was going to wear each day!!
Cute pics!!! =)
I totally had docs - loved 'em!
Yeah, so it's snowing in Austin ALREADY. And I just can't get enough of it. Makes me smile...
Wit woo (whistle) look at that school girl. You practically belong in Britney's video! ;)
Doc's really did feel like you had a brick tied to the bottom of your feet didn't they? Goodness those suckers were heavy.
SO CUTE! I never rocked the docs - my boyfriend did. He still has both pairs and they look to be falling apart a bit. I really wish I could find a really good shoe repair person here - sneak them out and get them fixed up for him. He loves them THAT much. They are SO heavy I don't know how your 14 year old frame lugged them around every day. I will say I always admired docs and chucks but never owned a single pair of either ones - I was too busy begging for different clothes from my mom/dad - I didn't get high on shoes until much later ;)
EXTRA POINTS: You matched your nail polish to your cheer gear!!! Love it - I used to do the same before competitions when I was on the dance squad @ school! (Our uniform looked like a cheer uniform)
I had T-strap Mary Jane Docs & they looked super badass with my all-girls' school plaid skirt. *sigh*
Uniforms for 12 years... I had no idea what to do with myself when I got to college!
omg. i had the same necklace, i think we meant to have matching ones. I just had flashbacks of our 7th grade to the USS Lexington and sleeping in file cabinets....oy vey. And the tie and blazer....ughhhhh
Awww, your brother and sister look like Jason and Haley. The tan and the blondie. Your brother, even as a kid, looks just like my nephew. It's freaking me out a little.
the tube socks look.........WHAT WERE WE THINKING??!!! we're getting snow here (fort worth) so my guess is it's headed your way soon.
You can tell it is you in the bottom picture-- FROM THE SMILE! I know I am not the only one that is thinking, thank god this girl has so many pictures of herself from the past.
You are rocking the doc martins. I had some too, and yes, they were atrocious.
I can't hate on the docs, we were all there. However, I LOVE the socks!!
You look pretty bad ass in that first pic. I never had uniforms and I never had Docs. Your whole fam is too cute.
aw, cute pics!!
i think docs kept my legs toned back then ;) i think sandals were even heavier than the shoes!
Whoa...had to do a double take of the blonde girl in the second pic. She looks almost identical to myself when i was that old :)- Lol
And school uniforms HAD to be accessorized with either Docs or Vans. Ooo the days of past...LOVE IT ♥
I love the "tribal necklace" and I never had Doc Martens until they were almost out of style. I was lame!
p.s. snow in Houston? really?!!?
I don't think that I follow you, but I am going to now. Erin pointed me over because I am also a fellow houstonian!! But no snow yet!
Nice pictures.
Ack, snow!
Weeeeeeeeeehooooooo! Gorgeous lady!! hahaha.. I LOVE the Doc Martens.. what was up with those? I had a pair too - but the boots. I remember they were so expensive and now I look back and am just really really not sure what the fascination was!
I really really hop you don't get the insanity of that snow way down there! I am SO insanely far north from you and we haven't had snow in weeks. Very strange!!
Happy Tuesday!
You were way cool! Docs were the best... I never had a pair - they were too expensive for my folks. I did have a few pairs of Rollers and Vision Street Wear shoes - awesome!
Um, I still have doc martens. I need my doorbell to ring and it to be one of those makeover shows! You are so cute!
This took me way back! I remember how you just had to have doc martins to be cool! hahaha now I look back on pictures and think why did I wear those ugly things!
Well how cute were you in your little school girl uniform?! I used to wear one too lol. I love your take me back tuesday's :-)
Okay, this is too cute! Seriously, LOVE IT! I will post one just for you :) PS - I wasn't as big a fan of chapel days - but at least we had shorter classes, so I suppose that helped :) ha ha ha
so i guess i wasn't cool because i never got doc martens. oh how i wanted them but unless they were hand me downs, i never got anything superbly that hip.
Oh my gosh, I TOTALLY remember chapel days AND doc martens. The whole grunge thing was huge in Seattle, so I had no choice. =) Wasn't my fault!
Awwww you and your sibs are too cute!
You're so cute - no matter what the age.
I'll have to get my act together one of these Tuesdays and join you. I definitely have some flashback pics that are worth discussing.
I loved Doc Martens, too! And you are so right. They are super ugly. Love the cheerleading pic!
Oh, Doc martens. I still have 2 pair that fit. I think because they were pricey my mom bought them a "little" too big when i was in 6th grade...then my feet only grew one more size between then and now! :) ha. so they fit...and I wear them. Oh, did i mention they are boots!?? :)
Um...I saw the words Doc Martens and immediately was reminded of my younger days and how many times I tripped over my feet because they weighed a ton and a half. I thought I looked cool until I would trip over my own feet. I sure knew how to impress those boys:)
Cheerleading isn't really a big thing here so that sentence confused me. I don't know how many times I read about you cheering for the boys school and going "Did she just say cheered? Yes. But did she really? Yes, it says cheered. But does it? Yes, it still does" before giving up and reading the next bit and then it all made sense.
Fantastic family pics.
And I never did Doc Martens because I never followed the trends, but my brother did.
So YOU are the one who stole our snow from the Northeast!!!! I have 2 lonely snowmobiles in the garage and 4 snowman-less children this winter. And YOU get to have all the fun!!!

Did it snow?? We only got an inch or so in Austin :( I was terribly disappointed!
I loved my Doc Martens. Reminds me of the one week in college that I was hot. But I digress, you are friggin adorable in every picture.
Oh. My. God. I had totally forgotten about Doc Martens. I had at least 2 pair...I think they came before those horrible tree-hugging sandals that I wore through high school. I had totally forgotten how ridiculously heavy those shoes were. Why? Were they made for the Mafia and used in place of concrete when sinking people to the bottom of the ocean? Who knows. Snow in Houston is random. We just got home from Phoenix and returned to an inch of snow on the ground. BLEH!
I am a little late reading this..but the doc martens totally hit home. I went to an all girls catholic high school and you were not cool unless you rocked some docs. Mine were green, and ughh so ugly. Of course I thought at the time that I was too cool for school. Thanks for sharing!
