an apology to my readers

my last post was apparently viewed as insensitive to some.  for that, i sincerely apologize.  for those of you who actually know me, you know that being insensitive or unkind is never - and will never be - my intention whatsoever.  for those of who you don't know me, i consider austin a home away from home in many ways; i have family here, i attended school here for two years, and i have dozens of friends who still reside in austin.  this city is my state's capitol, and in my line of work, i travel here very often.  i see the devastation this event caused in some people's lives - i was corrected by a reader that there has been one confirmed death and an individual who suffered severe burns.  i was unaware of this at the time of the post.  my prayers go out to those families and those injured or affected by this event.

in short, i hope all of my readers know my intentions.  my intentions were not, are not, and will never be to be insensitive or cruel.  yesterday was news you could use day and that event was indeed "news."  very sad news.  the event was a tragedy, and the saddness it has caused to some families is most certainly not something to be laughed at.  in my poor attempt to laugh at myself, i lost quite a few followers as a result.  once again, i truly do apologize for anyone who was upset or offended by my last post.  as i have stated, that was not at all my intention and i hope you can see that.

I didn't think you were being insensitive, you put that note after the pics that no one(but the pilot) was hurt. Obviously that was the info you had at the time. And yes, you were right there. I'm glad that you and the 2 million other people in Austin are ok.

I'm an Austinite and I was not offended in the least. <3

You didn't say anything offensive. Some people will always take things out of context.

Oh Meredith! So sorry you were given a hard time. I didn't find anything wrong with your post. Chin up girl! Hopefully my post today will give you a laugh and cheer you up . . . otherwise I'm apologizing in advance.

Ug, please don't apologize for other peoples stupidity! You were not in the least bit insensitive. Your blog is meant to make people laugh which is often accomplished by poking fun of yourself. You were obviously not meaning harm. I love you long time even if some weirdo's "unfollowed" you.

I didn't think the post was insensitive. Glad you are okay.

I don't think your post was insensitive at all, but I guess some people just tend to take things the wrong way sometimes. Such is life.

Still here...oddly enough the guy was from the Sacramento area so it was a pretty big news story here too. Glad you're ok!

peeps who really know you know that you would never intentionally say something hurtful/insensitive. never never.
such is the blog world...some people take things differently than others- if we all thought the same way, the blogosphere would be a pretty boring place.

I'm here too! I didn't think it was insensitive at all. Don't beat yourself up over this!

You seriously lost followers because of that? That's a little silly. Like I said, I live here and you certainly didn't offend me.

There are always people who are going to take one thing or another too sensitively. Trust me :)

Awww babycakes. You're right, the people who do know you, know that your humor in yesterday's post was all about making fun of yourself. I personally don't think you have anything to apologize for but that just goes to show what a kind hearted person you are.

You can't please all the people all the time. All you can do is stay true to who you are. Which is Hippie Gaga.

I didn't think your post was insensitive. Everyone takes things differently. And this post clears it up. You can't please everyone 100% of the time. I'm sad to hear people were hurt through all this - my thoughts and prayers are with them as well.

I didn't think your post was insensitive one bit. You were stating what happened and thanking God that you were still alive and not hurt. And I'm glad you're ok! I don't think you have to apologize to anyone for anything you say. This is your blog and you can say whatever you'd like. If they don't like it here, they can go somewhere else then :-) I love your posts and think it was very sweet that you made another post just to show that you aren't the least bit insenstive and you have a huge heart. Smile :-)

I re-read your post three times to see if I was missing something. Still following!

I didn't think you were offensive at all. Some people are just looking to be offended. Still following. :)

Kudos! Thanks for the clarification and I am sorry to hear this hit so close to home for you. You seem like a super sweet and awesome chic :)

Aunt Juicebox said...

Just because you hadn't heard about the death and injuries doesn't mean you were being insensitive. And I could see that the coincidence of being there when this happened disturbed you somewhat. Try not to worry about it. If it upsets you, just delete the post.

Ditto to what Aunt Juicebox said right there. I feel like I "know" you and I can't imagine you being insensitive in the least.

There will always be people trying to rain on your parade. Don't worry about 'em.

I'm sure most everyone realized that you were not trying to be a jerk. Such a tragedy!

OneCraftyFox said...

Oh to quickly clarify... you DID lose me as a follower for a few hours BUT it had NOTHING to do with your original post (honest, babe!).

I realized the other day that I was following over 70 blogspots (more than half of which I wasn't avidly reading)and late last night I was doing some clean up and 'managing'. I accidentally removed you from my settings and noticed as soon as I went to check in today. I just started following you recently and luckily still had you on my bookmarks!

Take it easy,
Diana

I say EFF'em!

ScoMan said...

I agreed with Ed.

If they took that seriously well then who wants them following you anyway? They'll just complain about the smallest things in your posts and make blogging less fun.

I thought it was a great way to personalise news you can use and I don't think you should have to apologise for it.

Honey, you didn't write anything offensive. I'm glad you're okay!!!! YOU ROCK!

Kiera said...

you didn't write anything wrong. haha right any wrong.

that's lame if you lost followers because of that. If you were writing a news blog and you made a joke of the event, that would be insensitive. But you came out, unscathed, OF COURSE IT WAS A TRAGEDY. People have to stop thinking that people are out to offend THEM all the time. talk about self centered.

keep doin what you're doin. i love your blog, if that counts.

I'm so glad you're ok, lovey!! Most us know that the post yesterday was simply how you write, that's your personality! No offense taken here, my dear! xoxo

I don't know how you will be able to carry on with the loss of some of your followers over this incident. Somehow, I think you'll manage. ;)

Shandal said...

I didn't think you were insensitive... What can you do? Can't please everyone I guess.

Here is the thing, when you write, it is supposed to come from the heart and sometimes that will be goofy and sometimes it will be serious and sometimes it will just be like wtf? We blog so we have a creative outlet - its cool that other people read it, but we are not writers with ten editors or speechwriter who think about every possible person who got have got killed.

You didn't write anything wrong = anyone who knows your writing knows that. And if you lost someone, just eff it because those would be the same people you would lose next time you unwittingly upset them, probably again unintentionally.
and that is ok - there are blogs for everyone.

Oh good gravy. I don't think you did anything wrong. You didn't disgrace the people that were hurt or killed. People look for reasons to be offended.
