* tomorrow's the last day to enter my giveaway!! *
remember how some of you didn't seem to think my awkward, ugly duckling stage was really that awkward?? well, today i bring you great pictures. oh the joys of middle school. le sigh. middle school brings back memories of my very favorite things: braces, unmanageable hair, messy ponytails, puberty, school uniforms, and "going out" with boys (even though you never actually went anywhere except maybe to the movies where my mom would drive us in the back of her land cruiser). one of my favorite memories of middle school, though were school sports - soccer, track and field, cross country, and cheerleading. i was never a volleyball player because i always had broken arms, and basketball wasn't my thing due to the whole issue of height (or lack thereof). with soccer, my middle school didn't have a girls' team, so i played on the boys' team against other boys' teams. i absolutely loved kicking the guys' asses. middle school boys hate when (OMG) a girl is actually better than them at something. so, naturally i capitalized on it.
i especially loved track meets because that's where me and my two best friends, erin and julie, would get to meet cute boys at other middle schools. oh, and i liked getting the hardware that came with winning. i liked winning. (not much has changed.) i ran the 100m, 200m, and 400m opens, and the 4x100m and 4x200m relays. i wasn't the best at the 100m race, but the 200m and 400m races were definitely my thing. my absolute favorite, though, was high jump.
{this first photo shows me with my little sister in all my braces glory. these photos were obviously taken before i had discovered the wonder that is make-up or tweezers. i was unashamed of my sexy metal mouth. this second photo is me with my two besties, erin and julie, discusses boys, no less. judging from that skank look on my face, we must have been discusses a boy i didn't particularly care for.}

Aww.. I don't think you looked awkward. In that last picture you look like Punky Brewster. (which is a good thing)
aah, track and field. I always felt so badass in my spikes. I was a hurdler - those were truly my glory days.
Haha I love your take me back Tuesdays. Always super fun!
Aww okay, that last picture is just so stinkin' precious!!!
bahhh. i loved track haha
Over Christmas I was looking through some old photos and definitely found some from my awkward braces days. I distinctly remember thinking how hot I looked that day... not so much.
Sorry you're still a cutie! :) I always loved beating boys at their own games but I sucked at sports. I always tried my best to beat them during field day! (I guess it was track and field day vs. stupid stuff like potato sack races!).
You rocked then and you rock now!
I'm still waiting for the pictures in which you look in any way awkward.
The lighting/shadows in the last picture makes you arms look super ripped and I am jealous that I do not have muscles like that. (Even if it is light trickery.)
You do look ripped in the last one. I need to buy a scanner. Until then, I cannot participate. For shame.
DUDE, it looks like you had guns in the 6th grade. Way to be!
Too bad you weren't ugly in sixth grade. Don't get me all excited for nothing!
Look at those guns, lady! We totally would have been besties back then. The End.
Definite punky brewster look!!! I loved her! :) you were actually quite a cute middle schooler... most had it MUCH worse!
aw, i think you look cute hun!
I ran track in middle school too. We liked it because we could get a tan and hang out after school. I ran the 4x100 relay, the 400 and the 800 if I remember correctly. Still don't think your awkward phase was too bad. I will scan pics to prove mine was way worse some day when I get a scanner. Also: Trifecta, please forgive me for making you or your man friend’s feel old. I edited and posted stats on how many men over 30 in America have never been married.
Here you were being all sporty while I was using any excuse in the book to get out of our daily 1.6km run and P.E. Asthma, sore ankle, period (didn't even have my period yet).
Aw so sweet. :)
xo.
Still jealous of your arms...even in your 200 meter/no make-up days, you're looking good girl! Bet the boys were lining up for you. And with that speed, they literally had to chase you. Haha!
I love your 'take me back' tuesdays! I just love seeing the old pics - so cute! I was never a sporty girl, myself... I was going to ballet everyday instead.
Look at those muscles! Scrunch socks were so cool then :) And you do look fast like a cheetah! I love that you do this take my back tuesday thing :)
So cute!!! At least your hair wasn't a hot mess like mine was. I had huge bangs and wings.
Yes.
Wings.
I looked like a freaking maxi-pad, and no, I won't be posting pics. ;)
400m queen here. lets have a 400 virtual dash someday.
girl- you aint seen awkward 6th grade pics.
I agree with Salt. I'm still waiting for the awkward phase. You think you were awkward?? OK..I will post some of mine in the future (although you should also check out the picture of my basketball homecoming I posted last month...that was awkward for SHO).
I never got to beat a boy at his own game (well, except for manipulation, but there's no trophy for that). I would like to personally thank you for representin' our gender.
You didn't look akward, you looked cute! :)
Awwwwww.....look at you. I feel like such a pedophile now.
If I brought out my middle school pictures I wouldn't have any followers left!
Ha ha, you are so cute! I like take me back tuesdays!
i did track tooooo! the similarities are never ending. but i was more into the events where i threw stuff. mostly because i spent all of my track and field years with horrid shin splints- like gross covered in bruises shins. there's a way to get the boys by the way- have legs covered in bruises. hawt.
I ran track in 8th grade. And only 8th grade. I guess I had good sprinting form but I don't think I was that fast. I also did high jump and sucked balls at it.
I have a killer Flashback Friday coming at you this week...let me just say there are sparkles involved...and maybe a flute.
Boys, boys, boys, we like the girls that are easy to catch. The sloths with the nice looking arms where are those girls?
You really were very athletic weren't you?
I was never good at sports so didn't participate much, which I guess saved me the middle school embarrasment of being beaten by a girl.. which would have obviously happened.
Love the socks!
Woot woot braces! At least you were (are) athletic. I was awkward in so many ways -- braces, glasses, acne, fattiness -- ugh.
You were adorable!
SO cute! I was in track in elementary school for several years, and it was embarrassing as hell. The track meet was always at this magnet school for P.E. so they always won everything, but we came from a really poor school and got made fun of a lot.
