take me back tuesday: bad hair, daisey dukes, yin and yang, and converse... oh, yeah and the new BANGS.

don't worry... i didn't forget that today was tuesday.  it just took me a little longer than usual today.  plus, i was too busy of thinking of the hundreds of reasons why i'm so incredibly unqualified to be a paired figure skater.

that being said, let me officially welcome you to take me back tuesday where i'll be taking you back to third grade.  feel free to cringe at any point.

the scene

age: 8 years old

what: the morning of my first day of 3rd grade

why: because my mom took pictures every year documenting my "first day of (insert grade level here)" and i clearly liked to ham it up for the camera like a freaking porkchop

now on to addressing the attire and pose

hair: i was in a tomboy stage.  forgive me.  and clearly, i was growing out my bangs.  remember when having bangs was no longer "cool" anymore so everyone pinned them back while they were growing out?  it's funny how fads come and go.  it's even more interesting today because i now (as of yesterday, as a matter of fact) have bangs.  like real legitimate bangs; not the i-have-short-side-bangs-that-pose-as-real-bangs-but-aren't-really.  i may or may not show you a picture at the end of this post.  but probably not though because i hate them on me.  and i cried this morning when i woke up and they were sticking up all over the place like beetlejuice.

necklace: yin-yang necklace.  duh.  those were so the shiz.  i was yin and my best friend was yang.  or maybe it was the other way around, i can't really remember.  in this picture, i think i was actually wearing both the yin and the yang which i think means i'm a whole person who has reached the self-actualization stage on maslow's hierarchy of needs.

shorts: these shorts gave daisy dukes a whole new meaning.  not the fact that they were short, but they had actual daises on them.  well, by real i mean daisy decals, but still.

shoes: converse.  obvs i was the most badass 3rd grader in the school.

----
oh, and because some people were asking... i'll show you my accidental bangs.  like real bangs that i have no idea what i'm supposed to do with now that i have them.  i need brooke or mayra's help since they both seriously have perfect bangs.

{driving in the car, this morning, on the way to work, waiting at an extremely long stop light, and being grouchy about my beetle juice looking bangs}

{this was during my lunch break today.  you can probably see bailey going potty in the background somewhere.}

mwahah ying yang necklaces, those went perfectly with my pearl sketchers that were SO COOL!!

Ying and yang necklaces were the coolest! And the best friend necklaces lol. I love the slochy socks! :-) My mom always took my pic the first day of each grade too lol.

I don't think your "accidental" bangs look bad at all :-)

I think the bangs look really good on you!

First things first... the fringe looks shit hot!

Secondly... you were STYLIN'! My grade 3 pic probably would have had me dressed in a ra-ra skirt, bobby socks (in two layers) with pov apple pie brand runners and a shirt tied in a knot at the front - oh and of course I'd have had pig tails with those efiin horrible material hair ties. Amazing that a few short years can make all the difference! I'm jealous as all hell!

I didn't even notice the necklace until your pointed it out! I was too stuck on the hair and the giant plaid messenger bag.

I like the bangs! And good lord your eye stunning in that grumpy picture in the car! But that being said I've had bangs like that and I HATED them so I feel your pain. Can you let them grow a little and change them into side sweep bangs?

Uh hello hotness! Those bangs look fab on you. ;)

I remember those necklaces! But I prefered my pink or black high-top Chucks :)

the bangs are hot!

YAY!!! i lurve your bangs. i wish i could pull off bangs. i also lurve that necklace you have on- not the yingyang one- eventhough thats totally rad...the one you are wearing in the last pic.

lastly, in my day it was the kswiss kicks that everyone had to have. i dislike when it is obvious you are younger than me.

They look good! Besides, I know what you look like in person and I think bangs were a good choice! you know I've told you that you look like Rashida Jones - the girl from The Office, I Love You Man, and Parks & Recreation. Now, you really look like her! And she is gorgeous - as are YOU! Embrace them!

How hot are you!?!?! I'm gonna feel really bad when I roll you for the Little Ga and mess up the sexy hair you got going.

Cathy said...

I remember growing out my bangs when I was younger and my mom kept saying "get them out of your face".

You look fab with the new bangs. I really do like them!

Brown Girl said...

You look great with bangs. Then and now! So purdy!

Are you kidding me - your bangs look awesome! And by the way beautiful eyes too. Now that you are all buttered up I'll tell you how jealous I am that you and Mayra can have blunt bangs!!! I love this look but thanks to two horrible cowlicks at my forehead I have an issue with these bangs working for me. OWN IT GIRL you look hot!

Looks good to me. :)

You were really into the black and white thing, huh? ;)

I love your bangs now. Rock them proudly!

Liz C. said...

I think your new bangs look great on you! I rocked the full, legit bangs for about 6 months or so and recently went back to the "off to the side bangs". It looks great, but there's too much trimming and upkeep required for impatient, easily-annoyed me :)

Bitch, Bitch, Bitch (Amanda Mac) said...

your bangs look good because you have strong facial features which allows you to rock the bangs without appearing to be a 12 year-old. I on the other hand get carded at rated r movies still so unfortunately I will not be able to handle the banged look and by banged I mean hair.

Kiera said...

dude. i love your bangs. and i typically think they look bad on about 98% of the population. i LOVE them. keep em. they make you look so sophisticated. i wish WISH i could pull them off like you

Bathwater said...

I like the bangs too somethings not you though I can't place my finger on it. Maybe it is the missing smile?

Elizabeth Marie said...

I think your bangs look bangin, seriously.
MISS YOU!

I don't think bangs ever went out of style. They've always been cool. At least through my eyes.

And it works for all ages. Whether you're 8 or *insert current age here*

The only thing that made me cringe was the Maslow reference.

My teacher for that class was the worst ever.

You look amazing with bangs...did you read my post yesterday...its all about how i HATE mine...i am so super jealous right now!

What's wrong with your bangs? I love them & wish I could pull them off! You're adorable!

And I think you were cute back then, too. The daisy shorts and the shoes take the cake. No matter how bad/dated you think the shot it, it's darling! p.s. my mom took pics of us on the first day of school every year, too. I should drag one of mine out....ugh!

I wish I could carry off bangs that well. They look great!

And as far as the pics are concerned: I had that same yin yang necklace I think and I wish I could have worn jean shorts to school. I couldn't wear jean anything until senior year. Stupid uniforms.

Tricia said...

I am loving the bangs! I have been deciding if I should cut mine or not. Although the last time I made a drastic hair change, I cried for months....you know, until it grew out!

Marian said...

Ummm...I wanted a pair of those converse sneakers bad when I was a kid. I don't remember what I got instead, but I know it wasn't those and I was so bitter! I probably ended up with some sort of bright colored high top. Sigh

PS- You rock the bangs...don't think anything less

Your hair rules and his is revolting therefore the resemblance is nonexistent

Replace the dukes with plaid shorts and we were twins. Even had the ceramic yin tang necklace. Weird.

Your bangs are fabulous!!

Ashley said...

haha. The self actualization stage! At age 8- great job! :) I had those same sneakers! Hot!
I cut myself some sorta bangs on Monday when I had too much time on my hands at home.
Um, they are not looking too good. I need to get to a professional, ASAP.

Masala Chica said...

you are so gorgeous. You are rocking those bangs I don't know what you are talking about. I think the fringe look is not for everyone but if you can rock it, it looks pretty amazing.

B-Dub said...

Seriously love the bangs! Try rocking them when you have curly hair!!! I used to spend hours trying to get them to look like yours, and then it would rain. OVER IT.

foxy said...

Dude, your bangs look super cute. See how much lurve you're getting? So quit doubting them.

Anonymous said...

I think the bangs look really good on you. (No lies!) I keep thinking about getting them. Sometimes I think I should cover the giant forehead I have. Other times I think I'll kill myself if I actually go through with it.

very married said...

i'm loving your blog! also, i'm pretty sure I had that exact same outfit...

Julie Leah said...

Oh, Meredith, I think you are rocking those bangs like nobody's business!! You look beautiful!

ABC said...

I seriously LOVE the bangs! No, really, I do!!

And I also think I had those shorts. And 3rd/4th grade was about the time I grew out my bangs, too.

You forgot to mention the awesomeness that is the ringer shirt you're wearing. I think had about 40 shirts like this at one time. My favorite was a black shirt with a great big yellow smiley face and yellow trim. It was AWESOME.

Desiree Lynn said...

Survey says: you rock the bangs! Your hair makes me hate mine. That's a compliment btw.

At least I'm skinny said...

I like your bangs. I am jealous. My hair is too curly for bangs (I tried in high school - it is only 10 years later that I realize bangs were not a good look. At the time I thought they were great.)

BonBon Rose Girls Kristin said...

Can I borrow those bangin' bangs lady?

Shandal said...

That pic with your arms out, I have one just like that of me when I was around that same age! LOL I LOVE your bangs! I could never rock those out though! Looks really good on you!
