for those of you newbies at my blog, we do something over here every tuesday called take me back tuesday. and by "we," i really mean just me. unfortunately, you, my dear readers, don't really have much a a choice in the matter unless, of course, you decide to throw a mutiny and go all boston tea party on my ass and sign a petition to get me to stop. but i seriously doubt that happening.
in this edition of take me back tuesday, i dug around in my old bedroom at my parents (now conveniently my mother's huge "storage" closet, aka - a place to put all of her preschool sunday school stuff and scrapbooking supplies) and found these two beauties circa my middle school era. i must warn you: they are not pretty. i have braces and am at a super awkward stage. (we all went through that stage, right...?!??)
{this photo was taken the summer before my 8th grade year. i was 13 and had brilliantly sexy braces. obvs, the dudes totes dug them. i was co-captain of the cheer squad, and let me tell ya, it was a BIG deal. well, actually, not really. i don't think anyone gave a shit.}
{this picture was from a 6th grade hippie birthday party. i'm not even sure what i was wearing or why.}

Look at you in 6th grade! Three guys?! I can't even tell you have braces. Are they the clear ones?
You looked great at 13. I was a cheerleader too. Fun times.
Some people pull off awkward better than others!
You pull off Middle School and Braces Well - must be all the cheering. I was soooooo awful with braces! I hated them. I have always had dark circles under my eyes and if I wore a hippie outfit I know I'd be labeled stoner! And I never did drugs in school!!!
You're adorable!!!
I went to a few hippie parties in 5th-6th grade too, and I look back now and think that CLEARLY I had the wrong impression of the hippie movement, because my outfit made zero sense. Love it!
my awkward phase involved a boy haircut- and by a boy haircut, i mean that people actually thought i was a boy. so i would dare say your awkward phase was MUCH more attractive than mine.
Whatever meredith. You were still pretty freaking cute. a) you were a cheerleader and b) you made braces look semi decent.
my "awkward" would have kicked your "awkwards" ass any day. because babe - you really weren't awkward.

Look how cute you were! When I was that age, I had braces too. But also a perm. And braces + perm = so hot I could barely tolerate myself. If you assumed I had many boyfriends, you would be so incredibly wrong.
I was never a cheerleader, but I did go through a hippie stage. I dressed just like that, except I wasn't going to a costume party. xo
Love the cheerleading pic. I have one just like somewhere except I'm all ablaze in blue and gold!!
Hallie :)
Are you kidding me? This must be a joke. I don't see anything awkward about you at all. You were a very cute young lady. Let me show you some of MY pictures from that age. I can guarantee that I'd win the awkward award!
You can tell you are going to be the heart-breaker you became braces are just part of the process.
I being of sound mind (at this time) do here by start this petition to take back flash back Tuesday from Meredith. All in favor of more News we need to know, or Tuesday at the gym photos sign below with proof of being a valid blogger of legal age with the continental United States.

'obvs, the dudes totes dug them' is probably my favorite thing you have ever said.
If I have a heart attack and you get part custody of my kids, I will be at peace knowing that my daughter will learn to speak properly.
I thank you for that peace of mind.
whatever. least awkward adolescent ever. thankfully most of my childhood pictures are not well-organized so the proof of my super awkward years can be hidden.
Uhhh...at least your awkward stage didn't include a beatles haircut and effed up teeth. I wished i had braces back then!
how cute are you! you pull off the awkward stage way better than i ever did!
Cheerleaders are the queen bees so I'm not buying any "awkward teen" stories from you, young lady.
ummm, seriously, i need to find a picture of my braces up close and personal in your face and the lack of wearing make-up until my sophomore year, then you'll understand what i'm saying about my ugly duckling stage.
Just came across your blog- SO cute! Love the taking me back Tuesdays idea- the pics are AWESOME! I'm your newest follower!
Yeah, I'm going to need proof of this ugly duckling stage! :) You've always been cute!
So you're one of those girls, huh?! Saying how awkward you were and then showing us pics of how NOT awkward you were. Making us all feel extra awkward.
J/K. Love you. And your awkwardness.
haha too funny... so cute.
hahahaaha you are too cute.
...and yes, we ALL went through that stage!
You totally do NOT look awkward at all!! Haha. I think I went through the most embarrassing stage... when my boobs started coming in, I wanted to hide them so I'd wear baggy flannel shirts and t-shirts. You look adorable, even in your "awkwardness" :)
Awe you were so cute and still are. I don't think I have enough courage to show any of my way back when photos...I shudder at the thought!
Uhhhh. If that's awkward I was Erkel.
When I first got braces I thought it was so cool to pick colored elastics for every holiday...that got old after about a year.
You are obviously much younger than me. Any photo of me as a teenager shows my giant 80's hair and 74 plastic bracelets. Occassionally, there were lace Madonna gloves. I could totally rock that look.
Call me a pedophile, but that's HOT!
I love your blog. It's by far the best one I've come across. The way you write is exactly how my friends talk. You're hysterical!
So cute!!! I love the idea of Take Me Back Tuesday's!
Hippie birthday party sounds like a lot of fun. Or maybe I just want an excuse to wear a poncho. And no underwear.
My awkward wishes it looked that good. I'm pretty sure you were a big deal :) And back then that was super good hair. It took work to get it that big!!!
