time for a lobbyist office tour

so you may or may not have seen some office tours going on around the blogosphere.  you can thank my boa-loving friend cher from the only girl for this trend and check out her site for other international workspace tours.  i finally decided to get in on the fun, too.  my office is fairly unexciting and - i never thought i'd say this - i actually miss working in downtown houston sometimes.  the one good thing about working where i do now is we have a huge parking lot, so i don't have to park in a parking garage and walk 20 minutes like i had to while i worked in the mayor's office at city hall.  i know, walking 20 minutes may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but wearing 3" heels, a silk blouse, and having to hike it in 105 degree heat and 98% humidity is a real pain in the arse, not to mention it totally messes up your hair.  houston isn't exactly a walkable environment.  (i know you smart growth and urban planners in san fran and nyc are probably having heart attacks.)

okay, enough talk.  on to the tour:

1. welcome!  please come in!  do you need to make a copy?  i have a texas-sized copier here to greet you.

2. here's my desk, walls, and files.  clearly.

3. i like to organize my life.  i'll organize the heck out of yours too, if you'll let me.

4. the view from my shoes everyday.  i basically stare at my boss.  well, i don't stare at him, i mean i can see him from my desk.  those doors normally aren't shut, and he is normally throwing various squishy stress balls at me to get my attention when i ignore him.

5. here's my little piece of home that i brought to spruce up my office.  i figure since i spent more hours than i'd like to admit here, i should probably have something nice to look at.  and that sign on the left is my fave: "there are 2 theories to arguing with a woman; neither one works."

6. contents of my middle desk drawer.  i obvs love sugar.

7. some of my files.  and my calendar.  and trash can.  all very exciting.

hope you enjoyed the tour!  i would say come back anytime, but that would be weird.

Meredith

Your office is so pretty and organized and clean. I could work there. Or it could be my bedroom, because it looks so peaceful.

How cute are you. Jealous of your office, my cube is depressing as hell!

I love that your office looks so light and cherrie!

Your office is so cute! I would have loved to participate in this but I just have a tiny cube and they freak out if anyone takes pictures inside the office!

Yeah you have a really nice office! I like!

It's so pretty! Maybe you can stop by my office and school me on how not to be a hoarder? I wish my drawers were so neat and organized!

I also wish I had plants.

OMG you are Al Gore! I figured it out! You are my polar opposite I think you need me! My post today was going to start with a quote from office space.

"I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work." - Peter Gibbons, Office Space

BTW did you pick those clementines off the road when the truck crashed?

At least I'm skinny said...

I am an organization freak as well and I love your office.

Your office is way cute! I'm just excited I finally have my own office for the first time ever but it's really not decorated. I have one plant that I'm in the process of letting die a slow death and two pictures on my desk but that's about it. I'm lame.

Aww your office is way cuter (and more personalized) than mine, but very similar. I’m connected to my boss' office as well, maybe that’s how all lobbyist offices are :)

you should come decorate my office with pics (of my loved ones, not yours. obvs)

also, you should come organize my life. i am not too good at that stuff.

and i will come back anytime, because i am weird. and i have a blog crush on you. and maybe a little stalker-like. so there.

Yay! I LOVE this one Meredith! Your office is so flippin' nice - and organized. Which I can appreciate.

- REALLY nice furniture
- are those Clementines some of the ones that spilled on the freeway the other day?
- fresh flowers & fruit - sheesh! I don't even have that at home, never mind the office
- love your friends and family boards. Good job with the spacing and right angles. Although Monique & Jessalyn aren't going to be happy about the omission of the Trifecta photo
- see people? even a messy drawer can be organized

Great job - thanks for playing along!

Your office is so cute, home-y and very put together :-) I wouldn't mind working in a space like that! Love it :-)

You have a super nice office. I'm going to try to do this later in the week.

I can't take you on a tour of my office, because I would have to spend six weeks cleaning it first. My husband and I share a massive desk, and we both pile things up on the desk. We both claim we can't organize it, because we don't know what to do with the other person's junk. Also there is a deer head on the wall. I attempted to hang crystals from his antlers, but my hubs gave me a look. I decided not to press my luck. He never said I couldn't paint the wall magenta or lime green, though. Deery would look good against lime green, I think.

Pretty sure that I want to work where you work - because you office is freaking beautiful :)
Do you and your boss get along well?? Not sure if I would want to look at my boss all day ;)
Yay! I love the tour... maybe I will do one of mine tomorrow (*note: I am a stay-at-home-mom.. this could get interesting!)

You win th award for cutest officee ever. And being a bit OCD, I so appreciate how clean and orderly and organized it is. The clementines and flowers are my favorite little touches on your desk. And the hand sanitizer. Boo to germs.

Macey said...

And so you have the prettiest office ever!
I love the neatness. If I worked there, that's how I like to think it would look like...very neat. A little OCD, anyone?

Claire Kiefer said...

OMG! I am absolutely amazed at how organized everything is . . . what I would give to be half that neat! My office is a freaking mess of stacks of paper and unfiled folders and books and UGH! Of course, I teach high school, so it somewhat goes with the territory, but seriously . . . you have inspired me to get my office in better shape!!

I just knew it would be gorj. Just like you. You know, everything about you is gorj. Well, minus the pesky can't eat or drink anything. I guess you are like 99% perfect then.

I would like to submit a picture of my children to be accepted onto your lovely boards.

B said...

Ok seriously?! You have the cutest little nook to work in. Love it!

foxy said...

LOVE IT! Man, no kidding about the heat and humidity in Houston. It does not provide the best 'walk to work' situations.... or even just the 10 minute walk from the garage!!

foxy said...

Also, your pictures make me think that I should bring more to my office. I only have roughly a million unused photo and collage frames at my house right now...

SO I'm an Econ major and I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing with my life... I'm seriously considering going into politics with it and I'm wondering how you got to be what you are and what your major is? HELP haha

...also anyone else that reads this comment you're welcome to help me too

your washington dc picture frames are crooked. how embarrassing.

That is a serious bastion of organization/order. You really do have a bright, cheery office! Good to see the plants are there to counteract the toxins spewed out by the photo-copier. ( I had to work next to a large printer/copier, uncool.)
Thanks for the office tour, a center of productivity!!! :)

Oh it is so cute!! I need to do some massive decorating to my blah office!

So jels right now. Back when I had an office I wasn't allowed to personalize it. At. All. Ever. Boring, boring, boring. You are super lucky.

i thoroughly enjoyed your office tour. if i didn't loathe politics, i'd be sending in my resume so i can share a "throne" with you.

your decor is so cute too btw. can you please help a sista out. my cubicle is wack.

So many people are doing this I'm starting to think I should too. But everyone's office is much more exciting than mine.

I love the throne bit hahaha.

I was thinking "oh she must work from home" because it looked so welcoming... but no! Your office is great.

Your office is amazing. SO pretty and I love the desk! I like that you have french doors and that your boss seems like a really fun person if you get koosh like balls tossed at you all day. (read in the wrong context that could be realllllly gross).

I really need to do this but my office is seriously like a basement that hasn't been finished w/ wood paneling for walls. I wish I was lying, but I'm totes serious.

I am an organizational freak when it comes to my desk at work. My other co-workers not so much. I have 2 drawers of "print samples" and I really, truly, HATE them. I wish I could just clean house and get rid of all that shizz. I have 2 paper boxes hidden behind my desk full of old samples that NO ONE wants to see circa 1980 something. I need to make a new box for all the stuff I'm over.

Rach said...

You have no idea how much I can appreciate someone else as obsessively organized and neat as I am! You're office is totally awesome. If I was allowed to paint mine, I'd have yellow walls too!
