news you can use #19: acrophobia, bulls in texas, spongebob apparently can save your life, and a giveaway

have you missed news you can use! ??  don't answer that.  or do answer that and just lie to me and say you have because i'm pretty sure it's missed you guys.

man conquers fear of heights by living on roof.  a vermont businessman hoping to raise awareness about child abuse spent four days living on the roof of his business.  he ended up raising about $4,000.  not too shabby.  though, i must say - i'm pretty darn acrophobic and camping out on the roof of something sounds fun to me.  and if his office building was only a few stories high, i'm not impressed.  what would have been more impressive is if he would have slept face down on this:

this isn't my cup of tea.
---
arlington, tx police shoot bull on loose on interstate.  for you non-texans out there, arlington is a suburb city outside of dallas.  (surely you've heard of the dallas cowboys??)  the bull was apparently jumping back and forth from the eastbound to the westbound lanes.  why is this so stereotypically texas??

"home, home on the range, where the deer and the antelope play..."
---
preteen: "spongebob taught me how to save a life."  okay, so i don't know whether to be scared for the future of our youth, or totally impressed with spongebob in all his squarepants glory.  according to the article, "miriam and her best friend, allyson, were in music class when allyson began choking on her gum.  allyson turned red and started kicking her legs.  miriam says she remembered an episode from the nickelodeon animated series in which squidward gets a clarinet lodged in his throat and spongebob does the heimlich maneuver.  she tried it on allyson.  the gum flew out, and allyson caught her breath."  weird?  cool?  quasi likes spongebob, so i hope he saw this episode.

he always looks a little strung out to me, no?

giveaway.  i will probably kick myself for doing this, but a suburban housewife-in-training is having an amazing diamond earring giveaway, compliments of kohl's.  yep, the same kohl's that now has LC's clothing line.  even if you don't like diamonds (ha!), head over to H.I.T.'s blog and congratulate her on her precious new baby girl!

these are really ugly.  you don't want them.  don't enter.  plus, you know i really deserve them.

WHAT is with that first picture! SPEECHLESS (does not happen often).

And, yes, other readers, you hate diamonds, they are ugly. I second Meredith. Do not enter. You want plastic beads from Old Navy instead. Much classier.

OMG! I got dizzy just looking at the picture of that building. I can NOT do heights. But I can do diamond earrings . . .

I hate diamonds. Like so much. I'm not even going over there at all.

I can safely say that if I had to walk out on that clear platform and look down like that, I'd vom.

And I'm glad that Spongebob helped save a life, but I have a confession to make:

I have a strong dislike for him and his square pants.

I didn't know spongebob was even still on...he has been around for a long time now. But I guess he is saving lives so that's good.

Neither sleeping on top of an office building or on a Plexiglas window on top of the Sears tower really impresses me. Maybe outside on the roof of the Sears Tower.

I like Spongebob too, remembering that is better than the monologues the T-Rex and I used to remember.

I'll win the diamond earrings for you-- but you'll have to come pick them up ;).

Hmmm. I'll have to ask Haley and Jason if they remember this episode. Haley is currently invested in the episode where Gary the snail shows his butt. And underwear.

How old are Miriam and Allyson? Shouldn't they have learned the heimlich in class or from their parents or something? Are kids today really learning life saving maneuvers from cartoons? If so, yes, I am scared for the future.

That first picture makes my stomach do loopty loops! I'm not afraid of heights, but just imagining being that high up makes my head and tummy spin!

I guess spongebob is good for something after all.

As tempted as I am by fancy earring type things, you're right, you deserve them, so I'll let you have them.

You're welcome.

I would camp out on my office roof for $4,000. It's only one story, so it's no impressive.

But it's cold out. At least that guy had the benefit of it being spring.

Yikes - that is NOT my cup of tea either!

I'm trying to imagine a bull hopping from one leg to the next. I can't picture it. It would be a funny picture though.
I just saw that clarinet Spongebob yesterday!!!
But seriously, the dumbass didn't know about the heimlich anyway w/out the help of Spongebob? Stupid.

Also.
I couldn't live on my roof. What if I fell asleep and rolled off?

Ah, l miss my student days when SpongeBob was timetabled into the afternoon with a cup of tea and a biscuit. This story is a clear argument for putting him on in the evenings - Public Health and Safety :)

I totally could not do that glass thing at the top. I get this weird pain in my feet when I'm up high. Our amusement park has a smaller scale Eiffel tower and it freaks.me.out.

What is a day in Texas without a random bull running around - It's not a day in Texas I'll tell you that much! ;)

I think I'd be ok in that glass cube hovering above the city - then again I flying down cables attached to a harness that is attached to my crotch in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle too. My boyfriend would probably crap the cube if I did that to him.

Sponge Bob is one of the cartoons I CAN tolerate these days. Him and Chowder. Pretty nifty to think he helped save a life. Good thing that little girl was watching that day.

Hey I found you through Stacy! Love your blog! I can't believe that girl saved her friend! That's awesome! Question...where the heck was her music teacher during all of this?!
